Rye is not edible in its raw form. Rye can be baled and made into a haystack.
Uses for rye
Rye can be used to make:
- alcohol or grain spirit from wort in a pot still
- beer from wort in a cask
- malt with water in an iron bucket or a wooden bucket
- rye bread from rye flour in a in a coal oven, gas oven, oven, or primitive oven
- rye flour using a manual grain grinder or a millstone
- wort from malt in a press
