S'mores were named by groups of young campers who want "some more" of that delicious yet complicated wilderness treat consisting of semi-burnt marshmallows and bars of chocolate sandwiched between two cookies. Because everything gets so melty, one has to cook, assemble, and eat these s'mores rapidly, which is a likely reason for the word's contraction.

A fire pit or fireplace is essential in the process. Anyone attempting to replicate a real s'more using a campstove is just fooling themselves.
