Question
For the repeaters, is the range a radius or diameter? -Spider
- I believe all ranges are in pixel radius. I need to verify it, but I would be very surprised if they were not. --EchoMan 09:09, 21 December 2010 (GMT)
Repeaters
I think it is still relevant to have the repeater graphic after the Great Radio Nerf Change of Day 5403. The pixel range distance may no longer apply, but I am of the understanding that repeaters still have their use. It's just repeater-to-repeater transmission that was supposed to be affected. Of course, this may change if it is decided to get rid of radios altogether. --Shaudawn (talk) 19:48, 18 April 2017 (UTC)
- That's fine to replace the graphic. Please make it consistent across languages. However, I don't think it's appropriate to include the in-game announcement, and certainly not any events, in the wiki. Sanchez (talk) 21:05, 22 April 2017 (UTC) Sanchez
Changes to Radios - 2021
Documenting the implimented change as of Day 7000, August 28, 2021, announced from the Cantr Discord general channel; commentary in [brackets] mine.
Description
Suggestion is as follows:
- Increase the ranges of the Medium, Long, Extended, Vehicle, and Ship Transmitters. - Set the ranges of the repeaters to match their Transmitter equivalent. - Merge the Enhanced range into the Extended range.
New Ranges: Medium - 75 Long, Vehicle - 125 Extended, Ship - 150
Functionality of repeaters will be the same (single repeat per message) and the ranges have been chosen to keep max range from exceeding 300px. This is to keep the radio coverage from falling into the same issue as before, and also maintaining the benefits of the new messenger birds.
NOTE: Current ranges [post-Great Radio Nerf of Day 5403, pre-Great Radio Semi-Un-Nerfing of 2021] are
Medium - 40 Long - 60 Vehicles - 75 Extended and ships - 90
Old ranges [pre-Nerf] used to be
Medium - 60 pixels. Long - 90 pixels. Enhanced and vehicles - 115 pixels. Extended and ship - 150 pixels.
In summary:
medium, long and extended currently are 40, 60, and 90. so from 40 to 75, from 60 to 125, and from 90 to 150. vehicles would also go to 125 and ships to 150 from 75 and 90. so yes, they are getting ranges probably slightly longer than before the nerf. The difference is repeaters wouldn't bounce infinitely.
