Wood is needed for a lot of things like simple weapons or furniture. It is gathered at a rate of 300 grams per day. You can gather more wood if you use an axe.
Wood is different from timber.
Wood is gathered at a rate of:
300 gram per day without tools
375 gram per day with a stone cleaver
400 gram per day with a stone axe
450 gram per day with a steel battle axe
480 gram per day with a 3/4 axe
600 gram per day with an axe
