A smelting furnace, sometimes referred to as a smelter, is a machine used for creating metals from their ores. A primitive smelting furnace can also be used to create iron and bronze, but a smelting furnace is required in order to create aluminium or steel. While smelting furnace takes more resources and time to build than it's primative counterpart, and cannot be built outside, it processes the resources more efficiently; you need less ingredients to create any amount of a metal using it.
