As of December 2020, it is possible for buildings to be demolished in return for part of the resources used to build it. Building destruction is a two-stage process. For details about specific buildings, please see their own wiki pages.

Ruins

First the building needs to be demolished into ruins. The ruins act like wrecks: you can see who's inside, they can't be locked, people can go in and out. If the building had any rooms before being destroyed, all those rooms are destroyed and turned into their ruin counterpart. The destruction project takes as long as it originally took to build the main building.

To start a destruction project, the following requirements need to be met:

  • The building and all its rooms are empty
    • No machines, people, projects, or items can remain inside
    • Windows can remain in place
    • Ships can remain within a harbour
  • You have the required tools

Disassembly of ruins

Ruins can then be destroyed, once again taking as long as it originally took to build the structure. All internal rooms need to be destructed first, separately. After this, you receive the amount of resources specified by the building type.

To start a ruin destruction project, the following requirements need to be met:

  • The ruin is empty
    • No machines, people, rooms, ships, projects, or items can remain inside
    • Ships need to undock the ruined harbour, and cannot dock back to the ruin
  • You have the required tools
