It's fine to go ahead and make the edit, though if your edit disagrees with information already in the wiki you should explain in the edit summary why you're making the change. Anyway, I've already made the change.
In the future, sign your comments using ~~~~. Timestamps and direct links to userpages are neat.

- I see Sho's beaten me here :). Of the options you gave I'd go 2, then 1. On every page you can find the 'discussion' page on the tabs at the top, just like this one. I'd check it first (if it's red, don't worry - that means there's nothing on that page yet), and if nothing relates to or clarifies your point, just edit it.
