Natural armour acts just like a shield does and subtracts from the damage done to an animal. Thus, some animals - like the ökensköldpadda - are invulnerable to simple weapons. This is the value for a totally healthy animal - it reduces proprotionally to the damage the animal has - reaching zero when the animal dies.
