The Languages Department is responsible for translating the game and game-related messages to different languages, so that foreign players will find it possible to play the game with little (ideally: no) knowledge of English. 
There are still many texts that are available only in English and that translators don't even have the chance of translating, but work is being done to make more and more of them translateable - and most translators spend a lot of time translating everything that is available for translation, so please be patient if you still encounter untranslated texts in the game. If you really want to make a difference, apply as a translator yourself. 

The Languages Department is accepting applications for all foreign languages currently available in Cantr. If you would like to introduce a new language however, please make sure that it fulfills the following conditions: 
- there have to be at least 4 players willing to play in that language 
- there has to be at least 1 player willing to translate the game into that language (could be one of the 4 players required above) 
- there has to be at least 1 player willing to advertise for more players speaking that language (could be one of the 4 players required above) 
Through these conditions, Cantr tries to ensure that there will be enough players for every language introduced (playing alone isn't fun) and that the game interface will also be available in the players' language. 
Once it has been decided to make Cantr available in another language, the translator will have to translate a significant share of the Cantr interface before characters speaking that language will be accepted. That is why e. g. Arabic and Latin appear as Cantr languages on the front page but you can't play an Arabic or Latin-speaking character yet. In the case of Latin, there isn't even a translator anymore, so if you'd like to see a Latin area, please find somebody to do the translations.

Junesun: from scratch

My name is Judith Meyer, I'm 21 years old and I'm from Germany. 
I have a huge interest in languages, programming, politics, history, philosophy and Judo. I can speak German, English, Esperanto, Latin, French and Italian, and I'm seriously studying Modern Greek and Chinese. I'm also trying to pick up some Dutch and Swahili, but I don't take that study as seriously. And I know how to say a few things in most languages. I'm interested in linguistics, particularly applied linguistics, comparative linguistics and computational linguistics. That's also what I study at university. 
 
In my free time, I have a lot of projects to work on. One of them is [[http://www.sprachprofi.de.vu]], where I collect all kinds of material that may help people to learn a foreign language online for free. I also offer an extensive course in Latin there. And of course I'm an active member of [http://www.unilang.org Unilang], the community of language learners that I presented to you in the first issue of the Cantr webzine. 
 
In Cantr, I'm the chairperson of the [[Languages Department]] (what else!) and working on the translations to Esperanto and German. Apart from that, I occasionally program stuff for Cantr, mostly languages-related, as a special member of the [[Programming Department]]. And I also have a voice in the [[Game Administration Council]].
