Holy cow, it's poison! Finally, characters have a way of killing themselves more or less immediately. No more slow starvation or multi-day self mutilation. All you need is some simple ingredients, an apothecary table, and a few days of privacy to concoct your vile brew (you know, so people don't ask you why you're making poison).

But, I don't know how it works, and I'm afraid to test it on my character. I don't want to lose them!

Well, luckily for you, Mr. Yuck is here to answer all your questions! http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/f/ff/Poison_Help.svg/220px-Poison_Help.svg.png

Q: What kind of poisons are there?

A: There are three kinds of poisons: Poisons that make you hungry, poisons that give you damage, and poisons that make you tired.

Q: How do I know how much they hurt my character?

A: Poisons work just like other herbal mixtures and food. If you attempt to eat them, you'll be informed of both the effect of the poison and the magnitude of that effect, the same as if you were hungry and ate bread, or damaged and ate onions. It's exactly the same, but the values are reversed, i.e., they make you sicker instead of better.

Q: I don't want to die!

A: Then don't have your character ingest an amount that will give you 100% hunger or damage.

Q: Oh crap, I did! What happens now?

A: All is not lost. If you damage yourself to 100% with poison, you will fall into the near death state at the "die" tick. If you eat healing food before the die tick, you'll regain health as normal. If you starved yourself to 100% hunger, you WILL DIE at the "die" tick. However, if your character eats nourishing food before the "die" tick, you'll lower your hunger and won't die.

Q: What's the deal with poisons that make you tired? Are they lethal?

A: They're non-lethal and are there for fun and completeness. The tiredness they cause can be cleared by resting, as normal.

Q: Will I auto-eat poison?

A: No, you will not auto-eat poison.

Q: Can I slip someone poison? Will they know?

A: Yes, they will. If they want to role-play stupid and drink it, that's their prerogative, but odds are your character will get tossed in jail.

Q: If I eat enough poison that I would have more than 100% tiredness, will the extra sit in my character's stomach and cause more tiredness at the eating tick?

A: I don't know, I didn't test that. You can.

Radios
<span style="color:#FF0000">Just a note: There is currently a bug in the game that causes radios to go out of sync. This means that they won't work correctly. All new radios in vehicles and ships start out out of sync. If you build one in a vehicle or ship, contact support and request them to manually re-sync the radios.</span>
Transmitters
Made inside buildings, land vehicles (vehicle radio transmitter), or cabins (ship radio transmitter).

A radio transmitter has a "use radio" button by it.

When you use this you can enter a message and set the frequency (one of 201) that you want it broadcast on. The message is then broadcast. Every one in the same location sees you speaking into the radio.

medium radio transmitter reaches 60 pixels.<br>
long range radio transmitter reaches 90 pixels.<br>
enhanced range radio transmitter and vehicle radio transmitter reaches 115 pixels.<br>
extended range radio transmitter and ship radio transmitter reaches 150 pixels.

Receivers
Everyone in the same location as a receiver in range and set to listen to the transmitter's chosen frequency hears the message. The speaker and transmitter are not identified; the message is along the lines of "you hear a radio message 'Mary had a little Lamb.'"

Repeaters
Made inside buildings.

Re-broadcasts everything it receives on the frequency it's set on. Useful if communication is desired between remote locations that falls outside the range of a single radio.

Example: <br>
Red and blue can't communicate directly, but with a repeater (white) it's possible.

medium range repeater reaches 60 pixels.<br>
long range repeater reaches 90 pixels.<br>
enhanced range repeater reaches 115 pixels.<br>
extended range repeater reaches 150 pixels.

Doug R:

Weird events on a road
Description: My traveling character(s)
* saw someone adding resources on a project or
* a ship undocking or
* heard a lock breaking

Explanation: This is usually caused by either someone accidentally double-clicking the undock/continue to break a lock button or using the back button on the browser with weird results, or they may have done something fishy in general. Just ignore it. And remember not to use the back button on the browser, instead use the back buttons provided by the game.

The server is down
Description: I get a white page with a message that says Cantr is being backed up / the forums are replaced by a text that says "could not connect to database" / the wiki says "Too many connections".

Explanation: Sometimes the server gets a bit too busy. Just wait a while and it should be back up. There is no longer a daily maintenance break so that message that appears is a bit outdated.

Dragging project is at over 100%
Description: On the character list page the percentage complete by the name of a character dragging person or pulling a note, envelope or item displays a value over 100%.

Solution: Cancel project and start again. If the project is assisted by people on a different location than the target being moved (for example when a person or a corpse is being dragged from a bike or a boat), the person who's at the same location with the target must be the one to make the final tug in order to make it work.

I can't pass things whilst traveling on foot
Solution: This isn't a bug. You'll have to wait until you reach your destination.

On the other hand, if you are in a vehicle, you can pass objects to characters walking on the road - just see it as the vehicle being faster, and able to pull-up alongside walking characters.

I finished a project for a building/vehicle/landmark but it's not there!
Solution: Don't use HTML, or apostrophes, or hyphens, or anything else but alphanumeric characters (to be on the safe side) when naming buildings or vehicles - or they're likely to get all manner of weird things happening to them... Contact the Programming Department with details of the missing building. If you have a forum account, you can post in the sticky topic in General Support titled "Report missing/misplaced vehicles

Error: You are not allowed to view events for other characters
Description: The cause of this error is unknown. You are then redirected to the character listing. Also Firefox 3.x doesn't seem to be compatible with Cantr in some systems. The bug generally presents itself after picking up or dropping a resource, starting a project, combat, or a whole bunch of things. If this is happening to you, I recommend using some other browser, at least if you're going to be starting projects or dealing with resources.

Solution: The last author of this section says not to use the browser's back button, but I use it all the time and never get this error because of it. Most Cantr pages have an embedded back button (a green arrow pointing to the left) or a link that says Back. It's best to use these if they are available.

Error: You cannot pick up this fixed object
Description: Happens when you go halfway through starting a project with a machine, for example to see how much resources would be needed, then use the browser back button to go back to the Objects list and click on another item. The game interprets it so that you are trying to pick up the machine. Also, a project with the outcome of 0 grams is created.

Solution: Don't click on other machinery after toying with one. Also remember to go to Activities and cancel the 0 project because it's blocking the machine from being used for a few days unless you cancel it.

A resting object is in use but there's no one else in the room
Description: Happens when the person who was resting on the piece of furniture died or got dragged away. If you look at the activities list, you will see an inactive resting project. Clicking the cancel button will cause a "this project has already been worked on, it cannot be removed" error.

Solution: Click on the P (participate) button for the project, then click on the small X to cancel your participation. The project will vanish.

I can't use a machine because every time I get some error and get redirected
Explanation: This is caused by the Firefox incompatibility issue and it only affects machines that have only one type of project, for example limestone quarries.

Solution: Use some other browser for starting the project.

I killed someone on a bike and the corpse didn't fall out
Explanation: Actually corpses don't fall out automatically because it hasn't been implemented. Corpses are removed manually by ProgD if there's not enough room for someone to enter and drag it out.

Solution: Post in the sticky topic called "Dead bodies" on the General Support forum and mention the name of the vehicle that's stuck.

Something is weird with the animals/we are out of animals!
Description: In order to stop the server from lagging, animal processing was broken up over the course of the day. The act of breaking up the processing broke the code in many places, and Jos never fixed it. The effect of this was that the over-crowding migration checks were broken, leading to massive pockets of animals pooling in some locations. The temporary fix for this was to turn off animal migration.

Solution: Be careful what you hunt. Until the bugs are fixed, the animals you see are what you're stuck with unless more are spawned in that location. If you are out of animals, and they are critical for your town's survival, post in the General Support thread, or send a message to the Resources Department.

I undocked from my ship/land, and now I can't dock back!
Explanation: It is not known if this is a bug or a feature, but the location you undock from is not added to the list of valid docking targets.

Solution: You need to move your ship for one travel tick. The movement can be very small, so long as the speed is >0%. Docking options will refresh and you can dock back to your location.

I tried to dock, and my ship is now in the middle of nowhere!
Explanation: You are in the void.

Solution: Post in in General Support forum or send an email to support. Someone will run a script that will move your ship back. You don't need to provide any information - the script automatically detects lost ships.

My radio isn't working!
Explanation: There's two reasons this could be. The first is that you're transmitting on a channel different than the channel upon which the region's repeaters are set. If you're talking on 100 fine, then switch and get nothing, that could be the reason, as your signal is not being re-broadcasted on the repeaters. The second reason could be that your radio went out of sync. All new mobile radios (ship and vehicle) currently start out of sync.

Solution: Post in the General Support forum, or send a message to support. Someone will run a script to re-sync the radios. If your radio is still not working after the script is run, then it's the first problem. You don't need to provide any information for your radio to be re-sync'd, as the script detects them automatically.

I stopped on a road, and am now going the wrong way!
Explanation: The game needs you to be moving in order to change direction. If you stop and change direction while stopped, weird things can happen.

Solution: If you stop on the road, verify that you're going the correct direction when you resume travel.

I can't match the speed of another character on the road
Explanation: The "=" button for speed matching currently only works for characters on foot.

Solution: If you're in a vehicle, you'll need to match speed by trial and error.

I can't get into a vehicle/building that's unlocked!
Explanation:  Buildings and vehicles are coded to not allow more dead weight inside than would exclude a living person, but there could be several reasons why you can't enter;

1) The building is at capacity with living people.
Solution: Slide a note under the door and ask someone to step out.
2) The building/vehicle is near capacity, and you're holding too much.
Solution: Drop to 0g and try to enter.
3) The building/vehicle is at capacity with dead weight. This can happen if a living person inside dies.
Solution: Post a message in the general support forum or send a message to support. Someone will run a script to move out the obstructing body. Please include the name of the vehicle or building. We don't need it to run the script, but it's helpful for us to know so we can inform you if this is not actually the problem.

Something else happened which looks like a bug but is not listed above
Other bugs can be reported to the Programming Department by either using the Contact Cantr II Departments link when logged in , or posting a report in the General Support Forum.

When reporting a bug please leave enough information for the Programming Department to trace the issue. If the infomation and/or bug is sensitive then please use a private contact method such as email or the contact form.

Weird events on a road
Description: My traveling character(s)
* saw someone adding resources on a project or
* a ship undocking or
* heard a lock breaking

I undocked from my main ship/land, and now I can't dock back!
Explanation: It is not known if this is a bug or a feature, but the location you undock from is not added to the list of valid docking targets.

Solution: You need to move your ship for one travel tick. The movement can be very small, so long as the speed is >0%. Docking options will refresh and you can dock back to your location.

Something else happened which looks like a bug but is not listed above
Doug R: /* Foreign Language Rule */

The rules in Cantr are enforced by the Players Department and set by the Game Administration Council. Note that the text below is not the authoritative representation of the rules, since this page can be edited by anyone.

Capital Rule
<font size="+2">"In the Land of Cantr where the Shadows lie. One Rule to rule them all..."</font>

There is one rule that governs the interaction among the characters in Cantr II.

While each individual player is allowed to have multiple characters, those characters MUST be separate and distinct individuals. This has several ramifications for the game:

* Your characters are not automatically a family, a clan, a tribe, an army, a company, or so on - not necessarily even friends. They should have their own interests and goals. They should not know each other unless they happen to meet. If two of your characters interact, they should do so as though each were looking out for their own interests and goals - essentially, as though the other character were being played by a stranger. Describing your characters as a family, banding all of your characters together to form an army, or starting a character solely to produce goods or perform services for the benefit of another one of your characters (making a `mule` character) are all violations of this aspect of the Capital Rule.
* Your characters do not automatically know what your other characters have seen or done. If you have a character in a city, that character should not know that there`s been a revolution to overthrow the empress of another town and establish democracy until someone travels from the latter city to the first to spread the news, even if you have another character in the empress's city. Discussing events that happened elsewhere before the news has spread by in-game means is a violation of this aspect of the Capital Rule.
* Similarly, a multi-location organization should not exist without some member of the organization fairly traveling from one location to the other. ABC Corporation should not open offices in two cities, unless someone travels from one of the two to the other to open the second office. The creation of organizations should take place in the game - not among your personal characters, and not offline among your friends who also play.
* You should also refrain from organizing events with your friends, who also play Cantr, outside of the game. This, although it may be hard to catch, is considered cheating as it presents an unfair advantage to the other characters in Cantr.
* Your character should not have a background story describing the time before they spawned. They can have set personalities, and you can even have them act as if they have a back story, but this should not be made public to the other characters. If it is, your character will likely be treated as insane.

The Players Department is here to help with interpretation of the Capital Rule. If you`re not sure if something you`re about to do is a violation, ask first! If you think someone else is breaking the rule, the Players Department can investigate. The Department can be contacted by using the Contact Cantr II Departments form, which can be accessed through the main page or after you've logged in.

Although these do not fully capture the Capital Rule, a number of simple guidelines assist the Players Department in dealing with (likely) breaches:
* You are not allowed to have more than one character in the same organization.
* You are discouraged from having more than two characters on the same location.
* You are not allowed to ask friends out-of-character to help you with something in-character, or to quickly log in to help.
* You are not allowed to attack the same character by several of your own characters.
* You are not allowed to spread maps or other in-game information by out-of-character means, like your own website.

Although these rules help as simple guidelines, it should be emphasized that they do not replace the Capital Rule as such. The key is to understand the spirit of the Capital Rule, which is basically about roleplaying. When you play your characters, imagine diving into their skin, and think from their perspective. None of the actions of your characters should be on the basis of your knowledge as a player about other locations, fellow characters, or the history of the game, or on the basis of your communication with fellow players out-of-character. Play your character from his or her in-game experiences, with his or her in-game knowledge, and taking his or her in-game personality and interests in mind. There should be no difference between the interaction between your character and a perfect stranger and the interaction between your character and another character of yourself or of a friendly player.

Four-day Rule
Part of the capital rule is that you are not allowed to talk about any in-game developments on the forum or chat channel - or anywhere else, really - within the four days following the development. This is to avoid the spreading of news about upcoming attacks or exciting developments in the game before players have had a chance to experience these events through the eyes of their own characters.

Non-Consensual Sex Rule (NCS) Rule
The Game Administration Board has enacted a policy regarding the role-play of non-consensual sex (rape, sexual assault, etc.). A player that intends their character to force themselves upon another character MUST obtain the OOC consent of the player of the intended victim prior to role-playing the event. If consent is not obtained, then it cannot be role-played. If the attacker pursues the event without the victim's player's consent, then severe disciplinary action will be taken. A more detailed explanation can be found on the forum at http://forum.cantr.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=19795&p=462215#p462215 .

Foreign Language Rule
Your character initially only knows the language that they spawned in. Characters can learn other languages provided that they are exposed to them in-game and role-play a learning process for at least forty days. This is prevents multilingual players from having too much of an advantage over players that only speak one language.

Specific Guidelines
Cantr characters are human, or as human as they can be as dictated by the game mechanics. That still leaves a great deal open to interpretation by the players.
This is not intended to start an inquisition against characters that may be considered human with exotic features (odd hair colors, deformities, genetic diseases, etc.) This is meant to give the PD a platform to stop 8-armed giants and other such extremes.

Characters can learn other languages provided that they are exposed to them in-game and role-play a learning process for at least twenty days.
